Data Import Errors

This document includes several common errors you might encounter during the import process with specific steps to clear them and complete your import.

When you encounter an error, you can use the Back buttons found in the lower left of each step of the process to return to the previous steps. Then you can upload an edited CSV file or upload additional photos.

You may choose Cancel and start over at any time to get a fresh start.

NOTE: The import process isn’t perfect. Sometimes you may need to make final adjustments once the data is imported, such as marking some phone numbers or email addresses private or adding additional details and groups.

"Upload Your CSV File" Errors

Error: Import Canceled. You may upload a new CSV file.

Solution:

This indicates that the file you attempted to upload was not a CSV file type.

From the spreadsheet software you’re using (like Excel or Google Sheets), save the file as a CSV (comma-separated) file.

Drag and drop the updated file.

Error: There was a problem with the CSV file.... An unexpected error occurred. IReader state: ColumnCount: 0 CurrentIndex: 14 HeaderRecord:

Solution:

Check to ensure there are no duplicate column names (called a Header Record). Each column must have a unique name.

Once you’ve renamed the header row (column names), you can save your CSV and upload it again.

Error: We found issues parsing data from the CSV file. Please confirm you have mapped your fields correctly to ours and the data in your CSV file is properly formatted.

Family: [Family Last Name] - No uploaded photo matching: [The family photo name listed in the CSV file]

Solution:

The family listed has a filename in the CSV file, but no photo with that name was uploaded.

You have two options:

  1. If you have the photo for that family, follow these steps:

    - Find the photo and ensure it has a filename that matches the filename listed in the CSV.

    - Hit the Back button in the lower left and upload the photo for the family (or families) where no matching photo was found.

    - Continue with the import process.

  2. If you can’t find the photo for that family in your files, follow these steps:

    - You can update your CSV file to remove the Photo Filename for that family.

    - Hit the Back buttons until you get back to the Upload your CSV file page.

    - Upload the updated CSV file.

    - Continue with the upload process.

Data Import Errors

Error:  We found issues parsing data from the CSV file. Please confirm you have mapped your fields correctly to ours and the data in your CSV file is properly formatted.

Family: Family Last Name

Solution:

This parsing error typically means there is malformed data inside a field such as the birthdate or email address.

Review each field in the row for the family listed to verify that the data is correct and does not have extra numbers, letters or spaces in the field.

Examples of malformed data:

  1. Birthdate or Anniversary with too many numbers: 10/22/20224
  2. Birthdate or Anniversary that is not a date.
  3. Email field containing spaces: Email fields cannot have blank spaces; those must be removed from the field.
  4. Email formatted incorrectly: meganemail.com (missing the @ symbol

Once you’ve fixed the malformed data, save your CSV file.

Hit the Back button in the lower left of the import pages until you return to Upload the CSV File.

Upload a new CSV file. Then continue the import as before.

NOTE: If the birth year is not included in your CSV file, we will append the current year. This year won’t appear to anyone viewing the member website, mobile app or printed directory.

Error:  We found issues parsing data from the CSV file. Please confirm you have mapped your fields correctly to ours and the data in your CSV file is properly formatted. Family: * Family last name is required.

Solution:

Every row in your CSV file must have a Last Name. And you can’t have extra rows between families.

To clear this error, check the following things:

  1. Every row has a family last name.
  2. There are no blank rows between families. Every row must contain data.
  3. Look for rogue characters that are below the family data. It can be helpful to open the file in Notepad to find this problem; there you’ll see a series of commas that indicates how far down the rogue character is.

You’ll need to delete the rogue character(s) before attempting to upload the CSV file.

Once you’ve made updates to the Family Last Names and saved your CSV file, hit the Back button (in the lower left) until you’re back to Upload your CSV file again.

Then proceed with the import process.
