How to Make Family Address, Email, and Phone Information Private

Some members may not want all of their contact information shared in the member app or member website. This can be especially important for military families, civil servants, or anyone with privacy concerns.

Instant Church Directory lets you keep contact information in a member record while marking certain details as private so they do not appear to other members.

Make a family address private

Use this option when you want the family to appear in the directory, but you do not want their street address shown to other members.

  1. Open the family on the Families page.
  2. Edit the family record.
  3. In the family information section, locate the checkbox labeled Address is Private.
  4. Check the box and save your changes.

When Address is Private is selected, the family’s address is hidden from member-facing directory views.

Make a person’s email address private

Use this option when you want to keep an individual’s email address on file, but do not want it displayed in the member app or member website.

  2. Edit the person’s details.
  3. Enter or confirm the person’s email address.
  4. Check This email address is private.
  5. Save your changes.

A person can still use their email address to log in, even if the email address is marked private.

  1. Open the family on the Families page.
  2. Edit the person’s details.
  3. Enter or confirm the person’s phone number.
  4. Check This phone number is private.
  5. Save your changes.

Important notes

  • Address privacy is set at the family level.

If you check Address is Private, the family’s address is hidden from member-facing views.

  • Email and phone privacy are set per person.

Each person’s email address and phone number can be marked private separately.

  • Family email and family phone cannot be marked private.

If contact information should be hidden from other members, enter it in the individual person’s email or phone fields and mark it private there when appropriate.

  • Private email addresses and phone numbers should stay in the person’s details rather than being moved out of the regular contact fields.
  • If an email address is removed from a person’s details and kept only in notes, it may no longer work for login or other member-related features as expected.
